Programs Offered by Girl Power
We are excited about bringing girls rugby to the Western Cape community! With limited school opportunities for young girls to play rugby, Girl Power Rugby Academy will provide girls with the full Rugby Experience. GPRA is a non discriminatory enviroment that welcomes all girls no matter their skill level.
Girl Power Rugby Academy is a year long Program that will not only provide your child with the opportunity to learn key fundamental rugby skills but also essential social and emotional skills such as: increased self-confidence, self-efficacy, resilience, teamwork etc.
Some of the fundamental rugby skills that will be learnt:
- Passing
- Catching
- Running
- Agility
- Tackling
- Spatial awareness

Girl Power Rugby Academy is a unique rugby experience for girls aged 6-13 years of age to learn key rugby skills in a safe and fun environment.
Our primary school teams will participate in the Girl Power Rugby Academy inhouse tournaments where they will get the opportunity to test out their learnt rugby skills againsts players in their age groups.
This is the basic foundational program that is unique in the sport of rugby in South Africa. As the only outlet to offer the core skills in such a well rounded way, each girl has the advantage of having an excellent foundation in the art of playing rugby.

Girl Power Rugby Academy is a unique rugby experience for girls aged 14-18 years of age to learn key rugby skills in a safe and fun environment.
Our high school teams will participate in the Western Province Schools league which will include friendly matches in preseason. At GPRA we are passionate about providing as many opportunities for girls in rugby and by attending the academy the participants will learn all the necessary skills needed to play the game of rugby and take those skills further. This may include becoming part of the provincial and/or national setup.

UPCOMING SCHEDULES & EVENTS:
- Primary school program: Practice days are Fridays from 4-5pm
- High school program: Practice days are Wednesdays 4:30-6pm and Fridays 4-5:30pm
- Tag program: Practice days are Fridays 4-5pm.
As our Academy grows and we gain momentum, we will be aiming at extending our Programs and casting our net out to include as many girls as possble. We must make sure that all families are able to get exposure to rugby. ALL our Programs are FREE TO TRY.
We would also like to accomodate families who would like to attend our Holiday Camps. We anticipate these to start during the upcoming Summer Break 2023, 3-4 week-long Sessions in addition to the Primary and High School Programs. More information coming soon.
Looking ahead, and as soon as we have enough numbers we will be looking at sending our girls to other parts of the country, and very soon; overseas.
Indeed, we have partners in the USA and United Kingdom with whom we are preparing In and Out Tours. We just need enough girls! There is nothing better than a rugby tour, where the girls will forge unbreakable bonds while participating in Rugby Immersion; practicing and playing rugby twice a day, every day. And maybe find a moment to visit the local sights!
